The experience
My career has been spent in the reality of customer-facing delivery.
I've built and led Professional Services organisations, managed complex customer engagements, developed leaders, dealt with difficult organisational decisions and learned — sometimes the hard way — what makes delivery organisations work.
I've also seen what happens when they don't.
That's ultimately why I created PION1R.
I wanted to create a practice that sits somewhere between traditional consulting and hands-on leadership: experienced enough to see the bigger picture, practical enough to get involved in the detail.
I don't believe in creating dependency on consultants. The best engagement is one where we solve the problem together, transfer the knowledge and leave your organisation better equipped to do it without me.
The name
Pionir is Indonesian for “showing the way,” or “preparing the way for others.” I like the meaning of that word in relation to what I stand for in what I offer. Choosing an Indonesian word was also important to me personally — it says something about my heritage.
The second “i” is deliberately changed to a “1” for two reasons. First, it's a reference to the quality I aim to deliver: the word now also contains “N1,” read as “#1.” Second, it let me register pion1r.com, since pionir.com was already taken.
The tagline, Build. Scale. Lead., says the rest. Having the answer isn't enough. Someone has to make it work.
